Location: Endicott, NY Job Type: Full-Time (8am – 5pm or 9am – 6pm) Hourly Rate: $23-$26 per hour depending on experience About Us: Bridge Green Upcycle is a leader in sustainable innovation, focusing on lithium-ion battery recycling. We are implementing a hydrometallurgical laboratory with the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, and efficiency, aiming to process high-quality black mass to high-grade products. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our team and support our mission to advance clean energy technology. The laboratory technician reports to the team manager and will be mainly responsible for laboratory activities related to developing innovative, economically viable and environmentally friendly recycling technologies. The person will spend 85% of their time in the laboratory, and 15% on conceptualization, reporting and literature research for IP generation and office work. Additional duties, authority, and responsibilities may be determined from time to time by the team manager, as consistent with the Employee’s position. Job Responsibilities: Lab Operations: • Support the implementation of the new Huron Campus hydrometallurgical laboratory (setting up the lab, analyzing workflows, generating SOPs and Work Instructions) • Perform the unit operations used in hydrometallurgical recycling processes (leach, solidliquid separation, precipitation and crystallization, solvent extraction, electrowinning) • Manage the inventory of reagent and consumables used in the laboratory, and the waste and effluents generated by the laboratory activity. • Manage batch production schedules, and meet daily and monthly recovery goals • Manage and collaborate with interns working at the lab. • Perform the test-work data collection and report the results in a structured way. • Maintain detailed records of lab operations, equipment usage, and production data. • Carry out sample preparation and analytical test-work with an ICP-OES equipment. • Collaborate in research and development (R&D) efforts to improve the recycling processes: o Test and refine processes based on customer specifications. o Adapt production methods to handle various types of battery feedstock. o Analyze output of the hydrometallurgical process to ensure consistency and quality for downstream applications. Safety and Compliance: • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for handling and processing batteries. • Wear and enforce the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all safety protocols, including but not limited to conducting pre-job hazard analyses, adhere to fire safety and battery storage procedures • Capable of wearing task specific personal protective equipment including dust mask, respirator, safety shoes, gloves, and safety glasses/face shield • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs • While performing the duties of this job it is required to stand, walk, and use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch when necessary for job activity. Equipment Maintenance: • Perform routine checks and maintenance on lab equipment such as reactors, thermostatized baths, fume hoods, filters, vacuum ovens and fume extractors (e.g., filter replacement every six months). • Troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment issues to minimize downtime. Environmental Compliance: • Track hazardous and general waste streams, ensuring proper segregation and disposal through certified waste management partners. • Monitor and document emissions and ensure compliance with EPA and NYDEC guidelines. Training and Continuous Improvement: • Participate in regular safety and environmental training sessions. • Support lab audits and implement corrective actions as recommended. • Contribute to refining processes to improve critical mineral recovery rates and reduce waste. Qualifications: • Associate or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. • Experience working in a lab or industrial setting, preferably in batteries or materials processing or extractive metallurgy. • Proficiency in operating and maintaining chemical and separation equipment. • Previous experience in lab team management is beneficial. • Experience in inorganic material characterization is beneficial (TGA, Karl-Fisher, SEM-EDX, XRD, ICP, UV-Vis, FT-IR etc.). • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills. • Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
